Putting the fine arts on center stage is the mission of the new Frist center for the visual Arts. The eagerly anticipated grand opening occurred in April 2001, with a blockbuster exhibit including works by Rubens, Monet, Degas, van Gogh and Picasso.
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is not only an important cultural focal point for the community, it is also a significant architectural structure. The Center is privileged to occupy one of Nashville's great historic landmarks—the former main post office, which was Constructed in 1933–34.
The renovated structure features approximately 24,000 square feet of main-floor and upper-level galleries plus extensive public spaces and event venues.
